Building an addition can be the perfect solution for homeowners who don’t want to move but need more space. This was the case for our clients in Silver Spring. The Tabor team is transforming their home with a seamless and spacious rear 2-story addition that will help them fall in love with their home again. Here’s how their remodeling journey is progressing:
The Problem
This Silver Spring family loves the location and charm of their home but needs more room to live comfortably. An addition was the right choice for these homeowners, allowing their two children to have their own rooms, giving them an inviting master suite of their own, and making the first floor more open and functional.
The Plan
The Tabor team got to work designing a more open layout where the family had room to be together, as well as individual spaces for peace and privacy. The ground level of the addition allows for a new kitchen, dining room, and family room, and the seldom-used dining room is being converted into a much-needed home office.
On the second floor, the new spacious master suite is designed with a walk-in closet, vaulted ceiling, and lots of windows to bring in natural light. Meanwhile, the children will enjoy their own rooms and a bathroom they won’t have to share with mom and dad.
The Product
The new home’s rooms are more open, with a natural flow pattern that makes it easy to walk around. A blue and gray color scheme is included throughout, bringing cohesion and a seamless connection between the original home and the addition.
The kitchen will be wonderfully refreshed, with contrasting colors and textures bringing visual interest and appeal. Matte white cabinets pair with leathered countertops around the perimeter, and the navy-blue island with quartz countertop is a beautiful pop of color and focal point.
As a final touch, the exterior brick will match the addition, bringing new life and wonderful curb appeal. The completed house will be everything this family hoped for and more — a seamless expansion, a comfortable retreat, and the peace of mind that they can stay right where they are for as long as they’d like.
