If you’re like us, you are approaching 2021 with hope and optimism. Last year was filled with hardships and heartache for us all. Routines and plans were upended, worry and stress grew with each news flash, lives were lost to a global pandemic, and countless members of our community endured disappointments and sorrow. Fortunately, a vaccine is shining its light at the end of the tunnel, and harkens a return to normalcy.
Despite the challenges that were faced, there were a few bright spots that shined through an otherwise challenging year. One of those is the lessons we all learned about the importance of flexibility, resilience, and making the best out of bad situations. We were able to focus on the things that really matter, on our families and friends. We returned to old hobbies or picked up new ones. We baked bread, took long walks, maybe rescued a pandemic pet. These experiences will serve us well as we all move forward together into 2021.
For the Tabor Design Build team, it was a time that made us stronger, spurring us to improve communication and work processes to accommodate working remotely where possible. Our team adopted rigorous safety protocols to ensure the continued good health and well-being of staff and clients alike. We count ourselves extremely fortunate that our services continue to be in high demand, whereas so many small businesses were not as lucky. Putting our talents and skills to great use making our clients’ homes happier places to live has been and continues to be a joy and a privilege.
Creating Happier Homes
Most people would agree that one of the upsides of 2020 was more time at home. With many homeowners transitioning to working from home, and children moving to virtual learning, time was saved on commuting, shuttling kids between activities. We learned to slow down. People cooked at home more, did more shopping in bulk, and discovered home delivery options for everything.
Yet, this extended time at home has led many people to take a harder look at their homes and recognize that they’re not meeting their needs. Every day we hear from folks who need updates. People want larger, more functional kitchens to keep up with more cooking and baking, with space for entertaining when we can all have large gatherings again. Requests for more storage is a common request, particularly for pantries that can hold more staples and supplies. Outdoor living areas, basement finishing, and second story additions have also been popular requests. To summarize, after an extended period at home, homeowners across the Metro DC area are ready to make their homes happier places to live.
Start Planning
If you’re ready to make your home the haven it can be, now’s the time to start the process. Our proven approach to design-build depends on our meticulous planning process. We also pride our honesty and transparency about the process. Which is why this year we have to add extra time into the process.
To obtain the high-quality materials and finishes required for our clients’ projects, we need more lead time than previously required. There’s a marked increase in demand for home-improvement projects at all levels of the industry, as well as homeowner DIY projects.
Building materials like lumber and drywall are experiencing disruptions in production and shipping. There are also delays in manufacturing and shipping of finishing materials like appliances.
If you’re ready to improve your home and the way you live in it, call us today so we can help. It’s a new year, and we look forward to working with you in it.
