Background
As their family grew, these homeowners loved their neighborhood but found their existing home no longer supported their day-to-day needs. Limited living space, a cramped kitchen, and a lack of organized storage made daily routines more challenging, especially with children and sports equipment constantly in use. At the same time, the home’s exterior no longer reflected the clean, modern aesthetic the homeowners desired. Rather than relocate, they partnered with Tabor Design Build to reimagine their home through a thoughtful whole-house renovation and multiple additions.
Client Requirements
The homeowners came to Tabor with a clear vision:
-
Expand the home to include additional bedrooms and bathrooms
-
Create a private ensuite bedroom for their daughter
-
Convert the existing garage into a guest suite for visiting family
-
Expand and remodel the kitchen to allow for casual, everyday dining
-
Add a functional mudroom to manage sports gear and outerwear
-
Improve outdoor living with a larger deck and refreshed screened porch
-
Modernize the exterior with updated materials and black-trimmed windows
The challenge was to achieve all of this while maintaining architectural cohesion and minimizing disruption to the existing structure.
Design Process
Tabor Design Build developed a comprehensive plan that seamlessly integrated multiple additions while elevating the home’s functionality and curb appeal.
The project included:
-
A second-story addition above the garage, creating a new bedroom and bathroom for the homeowners’ daughter
-
A two-story addition behind the garage, adding two bedrooms and two full bathrooms
-
A one-story rear addition to expand the kitchen and introduce a much-needed mudroom

The kitchen was completely reimagined and expanded into the rear addition, allowing space for a generous island that now serves as a central gathering spot for breakfast, snacks, and family connection. High-quality cabinetry, quartz countertops, hardwood flooring, and carefully selected lighting fixtures completed the space.
To enhance outdoor living, Tabor designed and built a new deck large enough for both dining and lounging, accessed directly from the kitchen through French doors. The existing screened porch was revitalized with new screening, updated trim, and a new door, extending the usability of the outdoor space.

From an exterior standpoint, the home was modernized with Hardie board siding on the additions, reused slate shingles on the front roof, complementary slate and standing seam metal roofing on the rear, and new black-trimmed windows throughout.
Result
The completed renovation transformed the home into a spacious, highly functional environment perfectly suited to this busy family’s lifestyle. With additional bedrooms, improved flow, organized storage, and inviting indoor-outdoor connections, the home now supports both everyday living and entertaining with ease.
Beyond added square footage, the project delivered a cohesive, modern aesthetic that significantly enhanced curb appeal. The homeowners now enjoy the comfort of staying in the neighborhood they love, with a home that finally works for how they live today.
